What We Do
The MKE Fellows program uses a cohort strategy that creates a group of like-minded young people who build a support network for one another. Simultaneously, the program provides academic scholarships, career experiences, professional development opportunities, and individual and group mentoring to develop a platform for transformative leadership.
Our Core Pillars
MKE Fellows works in close partnership with leaders of universities and local corporations to provide Fellows with the intenrships, support, connections, and resources they need to trive in college and graduate prepared for the professional world. Over the years the program has incorporated the following core pillars to build a platform for transformative leadership.
Learning Circles
We have partnered with several MPS schools for several years. Monthly, a member of our staff facilitates a focus group at these partnering MPS schools with MPS students. The focus group enables students to obtain additional knowledge, skills, and resources on life skills that many lack. Some focus group topics are conflict resolution, college choice, and time management. We also have a near-peer model, which allows students to work together under supervision and bring together synergistic results.
Lunch & Learns
The purpose of the Lunch & Learn is to provide a less formal and less structured way to network and build knowledge about the different Milwaukee sectors and employers in the city. Local companies host a Lunch & Learn by developing the program agenda, providing lunch and program space, and showcasing their company. The Lunch & Learns take place over the lunch hour on alternating Fridays.
